My new favourite candidate
I have to admit, during the by-election and whatnot here in Guelph, I didn't watch any debates, and thus didn't see the full scope of the candidates we have to choose from. Tonight, this changed.
I'm pretty sure there are like, 30 people running in this election. Animal Alliance, libertarians, communists, marijuana, the normal candidates and MY NEW FAVOURITE CANDIDATE:
Independent John Turmel
This man is crazy and hilarious. He was the only candidate to stand up and gesticulate wildly every time he spoke (yelled), he wore a construction helmet which read "TURMEL THE ENGINEER", and I'm almost certain he said "I'm going to kill Ted Rogers" in his concluding speech. My mother didn't hear that bit, but I'd prefer to believe that he said it.
Wow. THIS is what Canada needs to make our elections more exciting. Pure insanity.
Apparently, his blurb in the paper also says something about legalizing prostitution because shy and unattractive people deserve to get laid. THESE ARE THE ISSUES.

Olden days!
Oh boy oh boy!
The Onion has made me so very happy and laugh-y today.
Old-timey jokes and such are my cup of tea.
The Weekly is an old stand-by of delight in this genre. They don't update anymore, but there's lots of laughs to be had.
My predilection for this stuff also helps explain my affinity for Kate Beaton, which Rachel has already described.
I think I should note, however, that I actually don't like Married to the Sea at all. I don't think it's very funny, and they don't seem to respect the stock engravings that so warm my heart.
This genuine article is the greatest (via Jordan, Jesse, Go!)

OH! Except If you remember this you grew up in the 1890's, which is the greatest thing facebook has given rise to.

there are two types of people in the world, those who know our beloved Cailin, and those who read Kate Beaton.

sometimes i even wonder if secretly Cailin is Kate Beaton, and she just does a great job of covering it all up.

How should Molly runaway?
poll results. i was hoping molly would have to join the circus but looks like, as long as she writes a lengthy letter including fishing trawlers she can leave us in Canada. (maybe if Harper is elected, and Obama in the US we will all have to fallow her there)

Vote for environment
I've signed a lot of local hippie do-gooder petitions in my day, and joined a lot of mailing lists. Today I received a link to a website that makes voting suggestions on a riding-by-riding basis, showing the most strategic way to defeat the conservative candidate in each area.
Vote For Environment
The thinking behind this site is that any party would be better on environmental issues than Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada. I've been ashamed of Canada's stance on environmental issues since Harper came to power, and am still angry about his international betrayal of the Kyoto Protocol, so I certainly agree that a vote against Harper is a vote for the environment. I'll be happy if this website helps anyone make a difficult choice between several appealing opposition candidates, as we have in my riding.

I loved how this film explains the importance of being empathetic.

Molly and i just discussed the video and I want to point out, this video is not perfect. I have a problem of his use of the word "Darlin' ". I wish he explained the specific history of the phrase and it's association with hate crimes. He sounds a little threatening at the end.
i enjoyed sampling some of the responses, though really, i fear for the future of the world. human's arn't super intelligent.
